We have a limited number of Double kilns available to be built - At your location.
The size and weight of these ones makes transporting them after you finish making them extremely difficult, so we like to bring these ones to you in pieces and build them onsite.
Key features:
Chamber size 840 mm x 440 mm x 190 mm – (70 litres). Comfortably takes two 400mm x 400mm shelves (not included).
Operates on a 20 amp power point power point - 240V AC 20 amps - or can be hardwired.
Designed temperature range 650° ~ 850 °C – maximum temperature of 1050°C. All refractories are rated to at least 1100°C.
Fully enclosed in a solid stainless steel box for incredible strength. These kilns can even shipped on a small pallet without any need for external protective packaging.
Multiple layer insulation reduces firing costs (equivalent to 15cm of fire brick) compared with most designs at 7.5cm.
Rectangular interior.
Fully complies with Australian Safety standards – i.e. power cuts off when lid opened – unlike a number of imported models. If you are working in the kiln when it is hot, you don’t need to worry about electrocuting yourself.
A commercially available kiln which can fit the same shelves would be a Skutt 1414 - RRP of $3700USD (approximately $5000) before shipping and taxes - which makes these kilns incredible value.
The building lesson has no additional fee per participant - whilst one person can build the kiln along with Ashley, you may benefit from an extra pair of hands and it should be a fun time to drag someone else along too.
To build a kiln, you need relatively basic skills – Nothing that has been beyond anyone who has taken the course so far - and you will have Ashley onsite too:
Do some fine cutting/adjusting of pre-machined bricks and boards.
Rivet body together.
Fit elements into bricks.
Attach fibre to lid.
Fit handle and hinges on lid.
Attach cut-out mechanism to lid.
Attach controller to body.
Ashley will travel to your location and assist with all aspects of constructing the kiln.
Full information for our normal kilns is available
Here - these double kilns are the same, just twice the interior room, and twice the power requirements.
